Honolulu police on Wednesday shot and killed a man wielding a machete.

Officers were called to a Kalihi parking lot early Wednesday where a man's finger was severed, Interim Chief Rade Vanic said.

Officers found another man carrying a machete and ordered him several times to drop it, but he raised the weapon over his head and rushed toward an officer, Vanic said.

Two officers fired multiple times at the man. He was taken to a hospital where he died. Vanic didn't release the name of the 41-year-old man.

There was police body camera footage of the 30-second interaction between the man and the officers, Vanic said, but it won't be released while an investigation is pending.

The victim with the hand injury was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital in serious condition, Vanic said.
