About 60% of Hawaiʻi’s population is fully vaccinated — 10% away from the state removing all pandemic-related restrictions.

As the state aims for a 70% COVID-19 vaccination rate, a community health center on Hawaiʻi Island is using gift cards as an incentive to get patients vaccinated.

Bay Clinic is giving $50 worth of gift cards after each shot of the two-dose Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. Patients administered with the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine receive $100 in gift cards.

At the visit, patients will get a mahalo mystery gift bag with gift cards from a random selection of over 20 local supermarkets, restaurants, and other food eateries, as well as gas cards.

According to a survey study by the UCLA Covid-19 Health and Politics Project, 30% of their unvaccinated respondents said they would be more likely to get vaccinated if they receive cash incentives.

Bay Clinic has 10 locations in East Hawaiʻi from Hilo to Ka’ū. Appointments at Bay Clinic are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

You can call 808-965-3047 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also accepted.
