Hurricane Hector continues to be a strong Category 3 storm as it passes south of the state. The latest advisory from the Pacific Hurricane Center clocked the storm moving west at 16 mph with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.

As of 5 AM this morning, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center says the center of the storm was located about 335 miles south-southwest of Honolulu. Forecasters say Hector gained some strength overnight - remaining a strong Category 3. There is a chance for increased showers and high surf along south facing shores.

The forecast projects Hector moving away from the main Hawaiian Islands, and is expected to pass to the north of Johnston Atoll by tomorrow. A tropical storm watch has been issued for that area.
