This week on Helping Hand, we’re wrapping up our third annual series of guests relating to Hawaii’s homeless crisis, which despite some progress, remains the most severe per capita in the US. We had an innovative national project, and its Garden Isle component, Laundry Love Kauai, followed by Mental Health K?kua, and IHS: Institute for Human Services. We conclude the series with local nonprofit Alea Bridge. HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Executive Director Phil Acosta. Alea Bridge is focused on outreach to the homeless and at-risk populations in central Oahu.
Helping Hand airs statewide on HPR1 stations on Fridays as part of our afternoon drive broadcast of All Things Considered, and then appearing online here, where all of our Helping Hand segments and resources are archived. Every week, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization, topic or event that offers assistance to people with disabilities and people and animals who are among the most vulnerable.
