This week on Helping Hand, we’re learning about a critical need for blood from the Blood Bank of Hawaii. HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Blood Bank of Hawaii CEO Dr. Kim-Anh Nguyen. Few things make a person as vulnerable as being in need of blood. Did you know, just here in the Aloha State, they need 150-200 blood donors every day, seven days a week? They also get the lightest amount of donations during December. In this segment, learn about a major community blood drive scheduled for next Thursday December 27th 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dave and Busters, in the Ward area of Honolulu. Find a list of blood drives here.
Helping Hand is a weekly feature airing statewide on HPR1 stations each Friday as part of our afternoon drive broadcast of All Things Considered, and then appearing online here, where all of our Helping Hand segments and resources are archived. Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization, topic or event that offers assistance to people with disabilities and people and animals that are among the most vulnerable.
