This week on Helping Hand we start three weeks of related segments covering the worst homeless crisis per capita in the United States, which if you didn’t know, was here in Hawaii. HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Mental Health K?kua and CEO Greg Payton. Mental Health Kokua is the largest mental health nonprofit in the Aloha State, and has been providing services here for more than 40 years, including offering support to those who are both homeless and mentally ill, with 45 locations across the state. They are part of the coalition of homeless service providers Partners in Care. There are many ways to support their mission, as Greg details.
Helping Hand is a weekly feature on HPR1 stations each week. On Friday afternoons, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization, topic or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and others among the most vulnerable. The segment airs during the statewide afternoon drive broadcast of All Things Considered and then is archived here.
