This week Helping Hand wraps up three weeks relating to Hawai‘i’s homeless crisis, the most severe per capita in the US (hear our previous two segments with Institute for Human Services and Mental Health K?kua). We conclude with local nonprofit Alea Bridge, focused on outreach to the homeless, and other at-risk populations in central O’ahu. We learn more about the mission and many volunteer opportunities as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence welcomes back spokesperson Phil Acosta.
Helping Hand is a weekly feature airing statewide on HPR1 stations each Friday as part of our afternoon drive broadcast of All Things Considered, and then appearing online here, where all of our Helping Hand segments and resources are archived. Every week, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization, topic or event that offers assistance to the disabled and others among the most vulnerable.
