Senate Committee Votes 5-2 to Reject DLNR Nominee

Wayne Yoshioka

A big political set-back today for Governor’s Ige’s nominee to head the Department of Land and Natural Resources.   The Senate committee on Water and Land recommended the full senate reject Carleton Ching to lead DLNR.  The 5 - 2 vote followed another emotional day of questions and answers before the panel.  Committee Chair Laura Thielen echoed the views of many critics who felt that Ching’s background as vice president of community and government relations for the developer Castle and Cooke did not qualify him to lead. DLNR. Vice Chair Brickwood Galuteria disagreed.
