The Senate Committee on Water and Land conducted a day-long confirmation hearing yesterday for the Governor’s controversial nominee to head the Department of Land and Natural Resources. Opponents of the nomination of Carlton Ching, a senior vice president of developer Castle and Cooke, outnumbered supporters 4-1. Another 7500 people signed a petition asking lawmakers to disapprove the nomination. More than 70 people testified at the Capitol, including Governor David Ige who said his nominee Carlton Ching is the leader the state needs.
