Feds' Proposed Rule On A Native Hawaiian Government
The U.S. Interior Department is moving forward with a proposed rule that could lead to federal recognition of Native Hawaiians. The announcement comes one year after Department officials led a series of listening sessions across the state and on the mainland. But as HPR’s Molly Solomon reports, the decision now lies with the Native Hawaiian community to decide what it wants.
Members of the public are encouraged to read the proposal and provide comments in writing by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, on www.regulations.gov (docket no. DOI-2015-0005), or by U.S. mail/hand delivery to the Office of the Secretary, Department of the Interior, Room 7228, 1849 C St. NW, Washington, DC 20240. The public is also encouraged to participate in teleconferences on the proposed rule, a schedule of which is available here.
