YMCA Honolulu Looks to Hire 43 Youth and Teen Leaders to Fill Critical Need for After-School Care
As local keiki get ready to head back to school next week 660 students remain on the waitlist for YMCA of Honolulu’s after-school care as the organization struggles to hire enough youth and teen leaders to fill the need. The organization’s program operates out of 59 sites statewide providing critical after-school care for 3,420 keiki. To incentivize recruitment for new workers YMCA Honolulu is currently offering a $500 hiring bonus as well as competitive pay, paid training, a free Y membership, and discounts on programs and childcare.
For families still looking for after-school care options for youth and teens, YMCA Honolulu offers programs that keep students safe and help them thrive both in and out of the classroom. The Y Teen Club and A+ After School Program provide structured, supportive environments where students can complete homework, build life skills, and engage in fun, enriching activities, while giving parents peace of mind during critical out-of-school hours.
Would you like to speak with a representative from the YMCA of Honolulu to learn how these programs are making a meaningful impact on the lives of local youth and families?
The Y Teen Club is a free, after-school program available for students in grades 6–12 at six YMCA locations across Oahu, running Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., from August 4, 2025, to May 29, 2026. It provides a safe and supportive space where teens can connect with peers, build leadership skills, and participate in engaging activities. Participating teens receive academic support, participate in excursions and social and community service, are invited to exclusive events and receive a free Y Teen Membership and fitness training. Registration is still open for the upcoming school year at bit.ly/ymca-y-teen-club.
For younger students, the A+ After School Program — offered in partnership with the Department of Education — provides a safe, supportive environment for children in grades K–6 with homework help, physical activity, and enrichment activities. Available at over 40 public elementary schools across Oahu, the program offers quality care during critical after-school hours. To enroll your child, visit bit.ly/ymca-aplus.
