Waipio Valley Community Information Exchanges

Waipio Valley Community Information Exchanges

As part of continuing efforts to address future tourism impacts to Waipio Valley, which is outlined in the Hawaii Island Destination Management Action Plan (DMAP), the Island of Hawaii Visitors Bureau (IHVB) will be facilitating an opportunity for the community to provide feedback during information exchange events, June 10 from 2 to 6 p.m. and June 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jack Wayne Hall Building (ILWU Meeting Hall). The community is encouraged to attend on either day and provide input on the future direction of tourism for Waipio Valley. For those who are unable to attend in person, a brief survey will be posted online at AlohaWaipio.com following the event.

The feedback gathered from the community will be integral to finding practical solutions and identifying potential partnerships to address uncontrolled access and reduce the impact of tourism in Waipio Valley. The community will also learn about successful management practices implemented in other identified hot spot areas on the island of Hawaii and throughout the state, see potential tactics and partnerships generated by the Steering Committee, offer ideas, insights and input, and indicate if they are interested in partnering with and/or supporting potential programs.
