Pumpkins, Peppers, and “Oh My!”: A Giant Harvest Showcase at UH Urban Garden Center
Celebrate the achievements of home gardeners with the Giant Fruit and Vegetable Contest Weigh-in and Showcase on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
This free, family-friendly event, sponsored by the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience, welcomes the community to be wowed by huge, home-grown produce, including pumpkins, sunflowers, and bell peppers. The official weigh-in begins at 9:30 a.m.
In addition to the main contest, the day will feature a wide range of free general admission activities from 9 to 11:30 a.m.:
* Garden exhibits with many native plants.
* Workshops by Master Gardeners about container tree care and grafting, and discover the benefits of vermicast (worm castings).
* Demonstrations on how to root flowering plant cuttings, a plant swap, and a "Got a Plant Question?" booth where Master Gardeners will offer expert advice.
