SURFBOARD SLASHER "PLANKENSTEIN"
RIDES WAVE OF TERROR TO BIG ISLAND
THEATERS
Following Sold-Out Oahu Premiere, Director Diq Diamond Brings Horror Genre's First Killer
Surfboard to Kealakekua
BIG ISLAND, HAWAII – November 13, 2025 – Following its sold-out red carpet premiere on Oahu, the
surfboard slasher film "Plankenstein: A Killer Surf Movie" crashes onto the Big Island screen November
15 with a special screening at Aloha Theater in Kealakekua.
Released worldwide November 7th on Amazon Prime, Fandango, TubiTV, PlutoTV, Vimeo and
Bloodstream, "Plankenstein" marks the birth of a new horror sub-genre that combines sun-soaked surf
culture with blood-curdling thrills. Dread Central calls it "a campy, gore-filled romp...sure to become a
cult classic."
Shot entirely on Oahu with a 100% local cast and crew, the film follows the carnage unleashed by a
cursed surfboard protecting a secret Hawaiian royal heir through a series of gruesome, darkly comic
murders. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Kailua, "Plankenstein" interweaves ancient Hawaiian
curses, local legends, and modern surf culture into a unique tapestry of terror and tradition.
Director Diq Diamond's inspiration came from an unlikely source: a battered surfboard he rescued from
Oahu's North Shore. "I repaired it with metal hinges and twine, creating a Frankensteinian board that
sparked the idea for Plankenstein," Diamond explains.
The film stars Amy Jennings (A Place Among The Dead) as Police Captain Miller, Alex Dayuha (Red
One) as local surfer Kalani, and introduces Leilani Ramos as Lili, the unsuspecting royal heir. Local
comedian Jose Dynamite plays Maverick Mason, surf competition commentator.
Director Diq Diamond will attend both screenings for post-film Q&A sessions, giving audiences a unique
opportunity to hear how this soon to be cult-classic came to be and gain an insider's perspective on
bringing Hawaii's and the world’s first surfboard slasher to life. "We had to get creative," says special
effects supervisor Robert MacLean. "How the hell does a surfboard kill? You'd be surprised at the
answers we came up with."
