Maunalua Eat the Invaders Fishing Tournament & Community Event

Maunalua Eat the Invaders Fishing Tournament & Community Event

Mālama Maunalua invites the community to the Maunalua Eat the Invaders
Fishing Tournament and Community Event, a multi-day effort combining reef
conservation, sustainable seafood, and hands-on education. The
tournament targets invasive reef fish—taʻape (common blue stripe snapper),
toʻau (blacktail snapper), and roi (peacock grouper)—to support reef health
and local food systems. The event culminates in a free, family-friendly
community gathering with a fish fry (taʻape tasting plates prepared by Chef
Eric Oto with Chef Hui), keiki activities, and conservation education.

Fishing opens Friday, February 27 at 7:00 a.m.
