Chinatown 808’s Mid-Autumn Festival

Chinatown 808’s Mid-Autumn Festival

You don’t have to wait for a blue moon to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, otherwise known as a Moon Festival, on Oahu. Local nonprofit Chinatown 808 will host its annual Mid-Autumn Festival, a popular cultural event that brings together island residents and visitors to celebrate the traditional Chinese holiday that marks the end of an autumn harvest. This year’s all-day celebration will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 11am to 10pm at the Chinatown Cultural Plaza. Guests can look forward to cultural festivities, including lion dances, martial arts demonstrations, food and craft vendors, keiki activities, live entertainment, a large inflatable rabbit photo opportunity, and more.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar with a full moon at night. Families and friends typically gather together to admire the moon, share mooncakes and exchange wishes and greetings for good fortune.

This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival features an exciting lineup of 24 vendors offering a diverse range of products and flavors to enjoy. To view the full list of vendors, visit www.chinatown808.com. There will also be a lantern parade, where participants are encouraged to dress up in Chinese cultural costumes and bring homemade lanterns. The parade will commence at the Chinatown Cultural Plaza, with check-in beginning at 5:30pm, and the parade starting at 6:30pm. Participants will march around Sun Yat-sen Mall and College Walk, proudly displaying their lanterns.
