The Baryton is a rare instrument during these times, but the Valencia Baryton Project resurrects it from obscurity to play compositions written for it by Joseph Hayden. Similar to a bass viol with six bowed strings on top, it also includes sympathetic plucked strings behind the neck. The player bows the strings on top while plucking the strings on the back to give shimmering resonance. The Baryton will be accompanied by violin and cello from the Valencia Baryton Project. Early Music Maui and the Maui Madrigale will open the performance.
