Ari Shapiro has been one of the hosts of All Things Considered, NPR's award-winning afternoon newsmagazine, since 2015. During his first two years on the program, listenership to All Things Considered grew at an unprecedented rate, with more people tuning in during a typical quarter-hour than any other program on the radio.
Journalist Jim Becker has died at 98. He traveled the world as an Associated Press reporter, and covered Jackie Robinson’s Major League Baseball debut and the U.S. Army’s retaking of Seoul during the Korean War. But he said his most important story was about an underdog Hawaiʻi high school football team that won a league championship, a tale he told as a Honolulu Star-Bulletin columnist.
While the patients still have a long recovery ahead, good progress is being made. Medical teams are drafting up discharge plans for them, but it's unclear if they'll remain in Arizona or return home to Hawaiʻi for rehabilitation.
