  When state lawmakers added new members to the HART boardto help scrutinize the growing costs of Honolulu’s rail system, it actually made it more difficult to get a quorum and get business done. That’s why a question to amend the city charter will appear on the ballot next week. HART board chairman Damien Kim sat down with us yesterday afternoon to explain why voters are being asked to tweak the makeup and operation of the board.

  It's been six months since the rain storms triggered flash floods that devastated parts of east Honolulu and Kauai. Officials with FEMA the Federal Emergency Management Agencywho arrived in the islands in advance of the storms are still here trying to resolve the issues of the businesses and residents displaced back in April. Recovery Officer Dolph Diemont is one of about 100 people who are still here because of the back-to- back disasters that followed.
