A United Nations scientific panel on Climate Change released a report earlier this month that warned of a worsening crisis by 2040. Here in Hawaii scientists have been raising the red flag about global warming and sea level rise and the need to deal with protecting our natural resources.
University of Hawaii geologist Chip Fletcher sat down to talk about the climate change study, what it means for Hawaii and how he views the headlines.

Be Ready Manoa
Urban survival. Be prepared. That’s the focus of an upcoming event that the Manoa Community is gearing up for this weekend. Helen Nakano talked with us about a Saturday preparedness fair that’s happening this weekend from 8 AM to 1 PM at the Manoa Valley District Park. It grew out of a flash flood event that took place Oct 30, 2004 that Nakano remembers well.

The city just recently put out a call for bids to recycle glass. Environmental Services Director Lori Kahikina talked about that on a recent call-in show on recycling.
That prompted a conversation with a Maui businessman who years ago pushed to find a way to find a way to reuse crushed glass. Tom Reed of Aloha Recycling talked about his experience.

Music in the Clubhouse
Music is a very important part of Micaela and Valentina Diaz-Paez' lives. The talented twin teens were given an early start after their mother enrolled them at the age of 8, in the Boys and Girls Club and Hawaii Youth Symphony'sMusic in the Clubhouse program.
Originally from Chile, the young violinists started in 2011 and musically continue to thrive in the Hawaii Youth Symphony. The MITCH program marks its 10th anniversary and is open to students from 8-13. And it's affordable for just $25 for the whole year.
**CORRECTION** The twins are taking part in the HYS & HSO Side-By-Side Concert (Blaisdell Concert Hall, October 25 at 7 pm) that includes Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, and are not in the Hawaii Opera Theatre production of Romeo and Juliet.**
