UN Human Rights Review of the U.S.: Joshua Cooper
Next week in Geneva, Switzerland, the U.S. human rights record comes up for review. It's the task of the UN Human Rights Council, created in 2006 by the General Assembly. Through the Universal Periodic Review , every UN member nation has the opportunity to show what it has done to advance human rights since its last review, and what still needs work. A local UH lecturer and national advocate is the co-chair of the Universal Periodic Review Task Force for the US Human Rights Network... that's a coalition of over 300 NGOs organized in 20 Working Groups. Joshua Cooper teaches Political Science and is the director of the Hawai'i Institute for Human Rights.

We spend so many of our early years preparing for life, only to find that’s it’s mostly improvisation. At some point, you learn that thinking on your feet is a skill in itself – and of course, that’s a core belief for a comedy improv artist. It’s with that thought in mind that Mr. Aaron, Aaron Pughes, designs his Youth Improv Learning Experience for kids from 8 to 16. He’s starting up his third year of the program and he joined the show to tell us more about it.

Transgender Documentary: Kumu Hina Wong-Kalu
Kumu Hina Wong-Kalu is the subject of the documentary Kumu Hina. It has been on the global festival circuit since its release last year and tonight it premieres on PBS Hawaii at 10 PM, with a repeat broadcast as a "family choice" on Thursday at 9 PM.

The town of Lihue has seen so much history and change over the years… and few things tell the story as well as archival photographs. Pat L. Griffin’s new book Lihu'e: Root and Branch of a Hawaiian Town, has more than photographs, though - it’s rich with anecdotes about a regional capital that became a plantation town and continues to keep its history alive to this day.
