Sergio Mendes has performed in the islands for over 50 years, since debuting in 1968 in Honolulu. HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence spoke with the Brazilian music legend ahead of a pair of nights tonight and tomorrow at the Blue Note Hawaii. The interview covers the development of his passion for music at a very young age, some of the remarkable early experiences of his career, like playing Carnegie Hall on his debut visit to the U.S., and collaborations he's enjoyed, from touring with Frank Sinatra on multiple occassions, to recording music in the studio with Stevie Wonder, to putting together an all-star cast that joined him on his recent Timeless album.
