HPR's All Things Considered Special Guest: Martha Reeves

facebook.com/marthareeves

Martha Reeves of Martha and The Vandellas took time for HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence recently. The early Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee spent nearly an hour sharing stories ahead of dates this Friday through Sunday at the Blue Note Hawaii. We offered some highlights of this interview on-air, selected from a conversation that included detailed accounts of the earliest days of Motown, her own family’s journey through the pre-civil rights era, how her parents influenced her love of music, and experiences working with Marvin Gaye, James Brown, and numerous other music legends. Along the way, she sang portions of many songs, too, while explaining the background to classic recordings that people around the world have a strong connection to, including Dancing in the Street, Nowhere to Run, and several others.
