The January 2014 leak of 27,000 gallons of fuel from the Navy's Red Hill fuel storage facility galvanized local officials and the EPA. Seven weeks ago, they announced what was termed a landmark agreement with the Navy to fix the storage tanks. First there would be a feasibility study, then perhaps a 20 year plan to upgrade the tanks. The agreement includes a dispute resolution process with EPA getting the final say. Last week some state lawmakers issued their own letter of concern about the deal, which Senator Laura Thielen calls a huge error in judgment.

Most Oahu folks know about Downtown Honolulu’s First Friday celebration, but what about Kaua’i’s Kilauea Town? They do much the same thing for the last Saturday of each month and call it Kilauea Art Night. Working Artist Courtney Puig has loved and lived on Kaua’i for a decade, and in 2013, she founded the monthly event full of arts, crafts, food, and entertainment centered at Kilauea’s historic stone building. It’s wildly popular with local residents and visitors alike, and Courtney joined the show to talk about it.

Most of us look forward to getting away on vacation, and taking it easy, eating, sipping something, enjoying the sights… But sometimes we think maybe we can do something interesting and helpful on vacation as well. But how? Volunteering on Vacation is a free program that makes it easy for Maui visitors and residents to help protect Maui's unique and fragile forests, shorelines, beaches, and open lands. Lauren Blickley joined the show to tell us all about it.
