GVS Accelerator Update: David Bruce
You’ve heard that Hawai‘i can be a tough place to do business. Hawai‘i creative types would have likely agreed with that not too long ago. The advent of accelerators geared to Hawai‘i creatives has made it easier, at least for those accepted. And now success may come to a new cohort of Hawai‘i Island’s GVS Transmedia Accelerator. It’s their second outing to connect Hawai‘i creatives to industry. David Bruce is the Director of Marketing for GVS.

In 1965, he watches a Charlie Brown Peanuts special on TV, and is transformed by the piano stylings of Vince Guaraldi. Then and there, he decides that’s what he wants to do! Learn to play piano like Vince Guaraldi! So here we are, five decades and almost 3 dozen albums later. Good ol’ Charlie Brown really started something, and jazz pianist David Benoit is having quite a run. He’s in Honolulu to celebrate his 35th CD release.

Stringmania at Orvis Auditorium: Duane Padilla
He started violin lessons at four. He’s played professionally with three symphony orchestras including Honolulu’s and the symphony pops. In 2009, he founded the Hot Club of Hulaville with inspiration from Django Rinehart and Stephanie Grappelli. Hot Club’s album “Django Would Go!” topped the Roots Music chart! His hot licks with Hot Club inspire a lot of students, and Stringmania next Friday night at Orvis Auditorium will show what inspirational teachers can do.
