Trashing Paradise: The Garden Isle

Pat Gegen

Hawai‘i Public Radio’s continuing look at solid waste this week focuses on the island of Kaua‘i  today.   In 2011, the county council adopted a Zero Waste Resolution, committing the county to diverting 70% of its waste away from landfills by 2023.  HPR’sNoeTanigawa found that on Kaua‘i waste disposal is on the verge of changes.

Find out more about Kaua‘i's solid waste division or about their recycling programs.  July 6th is the start date for island wide automated pick up with the new carts, so check here to find out more about the Pay As You Throwprogram.

You can find our entire "Trashing Paradise" series here.

Noe Tanigawa covered art, culture and ideas for two decades at Hawaiʻi Public Radio.
