Update: Due to Tropical Storm Darby, polo and the Jeff Peterson concert have been canceled for this weekend. The schedule will resume next week.
For 53 years the Hawai‘i Polo Club has hosted matches on its field on Oahu’s North Shore.
The organization hosts 3 polo matches each Sunday during its 4 month season which is currently running until September with teams and players from around the world fly in to compete against local teams from each Hawaiian island.
It’s also a social event mixing high society with a relaxed country feel. Cars lineup on the ocean side of the field, as spectators tailgate in between matches. Inside the clubhouse on the opposite side, there's a bar and restaurant featuring food inspired by the visiting teams country. Men and women use to opportunity to dress up, and fancy hats are everywhere.
Paulo Skellon is the Ambassador of the Hawaii Polo Club.
The after match concert tradition continues this Sunday with Slack Key virtuoso Jeff Peterson. On August 28th, Hawai‘i Public Radio will be out at the Polo grounds with a performance by dj mr.nick, host of Bridging the Gapon HPR-2.
