Mayor Kenoi Arrested

Hawaii County Police
Hawaii County Police

Hawai‘i Island Mayor Billy Kenoi turned himself in to authorities this morning at the Puna police Station.  A bench warrant for his arrest had been issued for Kenoi’s arrest following a Hilo Grand Jury’s indictment following eight criminal charges.

The mayor is charged with two counts of felony theft, and two additional counts of misdemeanor theft stemming from the misuse of his county issued purchasing card.  He’s also charged with three misdemeanors for tampering with government records and one petty misdemeanor for false swearing.

Kenoi has acknowledged making unauthorized purchases of more than $129,000 for personal purposes… including trips to Honolulu hostess bars.  According to the bench warrant, no bail was set and he was released on his own recognizance.

Nick Yee’s passion for music developed at an early age, as he collected jazz and rock records pulled from dusty locations while growing up in both Southern California and Honolulu. In college he started DJing around Honolulu, playing Jazz and Bossa Nova sets at various lounges and clubs under the name dj mr.nick. He started to incorporate Downtempo, House and Breaks into his sets as his popularity grew, eventually getting DJ residences at different Chinatown locations. To this day, he is a fixture in the Honolulu underground club scene, where his live sets are famous for being able to link musical and cultural boundaries, starting mellow and building the audience into a frenzy while steering free of mainstream clichés.
