Today is Black Friday – a day where many retailers see their margins go from the red into the black.
But this year more and more people are turning to the digital marketplace to gather up gifts. A Google search on holiday shopping reveals that last year- 40% of holiday shopping occurred online…with more than half of consumers using a smartphone or tablet.
More people are buying early with almost half of holiday shoppers getting the majority of their purchases before Cyber Monday. Brad Klontz is a Kaua‘i based psychologist who studies trends in spending. He says that sales and holiday shopping are a battle over your emotions.
The National Retail Federation says this holiday season will be comparable to last year. Retail sales are expected to rise almost 4% with consumers spending an average of around $800 on holiday merchandise.
