Local Musicians Offering Performances Via Streaming

With stay-at-home orders in place, live music performances are all cancelled. But nowadays, anyone with a smartphone can stream live video to the world. And that's exactly what enterprising musicians are doing.

So if you're in need of some great live music and can't leave the house, here are some artists who have taken to streaming video as a means to share their music with the world. Some are posting recorded videos, and others are streaming live.

We're sharing individual videos from these and other artists on the Applause in a Small Room Facebook page. And on Friday, April 3 we hosted Amanda Frazier with Ernie Ecraela for a live performance in our (otherwise empty) Atherton Studio, streaming from theApplause Facebook page.

We'll update this page regularly as more musicians join the virtual performance space.

Yoza
A soulful singer/songwriter with a big voice and wonderful music. She's doing lots of live shows, along with ukulele lessons, on her Facebook page. So if you ever wanted to learn how to playthe uke and have one at home...this is a great way to learn.

James B. McCarthy
You may have heard James' name from Applause in a Small Room, or have seen him playing out solo or with Doolin' Rakes. This singer, songwriter and storyteller is doing something he's calling the 15 Inch Cafe, which he calls a "true listening room experience." You can catch him streaming live on the link above or at his music page.

Kimie Miner
A singer/songwriter playing in her living room and sharing songs that just make you feel good.

Ron Artis
Ron is a singer/songwritier who has played HPR's Atherton Studio several times. These days he's on the road doing interviews and playing music. Ron is working on a regular schedule for his live videos; check his page for updates.

Jake Shimabukuro
Another musician recently featured on Appaluse in a Small Room who is making his mark on the world, most recentlty with his new album "Trio." His live videos are especially good.

Led Kaapana
One of Hawai'i's great slack key masters shared a video of beautiful songs.

Lehua Kalima
You may know Lehua as one-third of the Hawaiin trio, Na Leo Pilimehana. They've brought classic songs and great harmonies to us for more than 30 years. Lehua is performing live on her Facebook page every Satuday at 6pm HST.

Kailua Moon
The duo featuring Danny Carvalho and Nani Edgar performs Hawaiian classica as well as their own original music.  You can also catch their live shows on their individual Facebook pages: Danny CarvalhoNani Edgar.

Enjoy, support live music, and be safe.

Jason Taglianetti
Host and Producer,
Applause in a Small Room

Jason Taglianetti joined Hawaiʻi Public Radio in October of 2006 as its multimedia production manager. Born and raised on Oʻahu, Jason grew up backstage, due to his parents, both theatre artists. In 1996, Jason attended the Art Institute of Seattle, where he studied Audio Production under many of the sound engineers, musicians, and music producers responsible for Seattle's grunge sound. Returning home to Hawaiʻi, Jason began his career in a familiar place -- the theatre. Today, Jason is a multiple award-winner for his sound design work for the stage. He also has several album credits and is a licensed amateur radio operator.
