Suspect in unsolved 1994 Waikiki murder died in 2013, police say

A man suspected of killing a woman in her Waikiki apartment in 1994 has been identified, but he died in 2013, the Honolulu Police Department said.

Lisa "Lika" Fracassi, 37, was found dead in her apartment located at 415 Nahua St. on Nov. 3, 1994. Reports indicate she had been strangled to death.

In 2020, the police department enlisted a private company that specializes in forensic genetic genealogy research. Using DNA evidence from the investigation, a genealogist was able to develop a list of potential persons of interest in the case, the department said.

Further DNA comparisons and a reexamination of fingerprints left at the scene resulted in the identification of a man named Cecil H. Trent as the main suspect in the case, police said. Trent was 29 years old at the time of Fracassi’s death. He died in 2013 in Honolulu, according to police.
