Maui business owner ordered to pay $300k for not filing state taxes

The owner of Quick Tow LLC on Maui has been sentenced to pay more than $300,000 after not filing or paying state taxes for six years.

Former Maui resident Thomasene Kanaha-Barretto failed to file general excise tax returns for tax years 2013 to 2018.

Kanaha-Barretto and her business Quick Tow were charged separately on six counts for failure to file annual GET returns.

She pled guilty last October.

Willful failure to file a return is a misdemeanor.

Kanaha-Barretto faced up to one year in prison and a $25,000 fine for each count. And Quick Tow LLC faced up to a $100,000 fine for each count.
