Noise, Night Work Part Of Year-Long Nimitz Project

The public is invited to a meeting Tuesday evening to hear about plans to resurface and repair a stretch of Nimitz Highway and Ala Moana Boulevard.

The work from — Kalihi Stream Bridge to Atkinson Drive — will occur at night and on Sundays, beginning around September. It could last through October next year.

The state Department of Transportation is asking the public’s comment on a noise variance for the project.

Tim Sakahara, DOT spokesman, says the construction will happen at night to minimize the inconvenience to drivers.

“We certainly know and recognize that this is a high traffic area,” said Sakahara. “What we would like to do is work in the non-peak hours to try to minimize the impact on the public and the community itself.”

The DOT is accepting comments on the project — online and through the mail.

More information about Tuesday's meeting and how to comment can be found on the department's website.
