The state Department of Land and Natural Resources and the City and County of Honolulu, in partnership with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, will be holding a town hall meeting on the Ala Wai Flood Risk Management Project next Tuesday.
Officials will be presenting the need for resiliency on O?ahu in the face of climate change, emergency preparedness, and an update on the project. Residents will also be able to ask questions regarding the Ala Wai Flood Risk Management Project.
The meeting will be held at M?noa Valley District Park's Gym No. 1 on March 19th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
The Ala Wai Flood Risk Management Project aims to reduce the damages and risks associated with flooding in the Ala Wai watershed. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimates a major flood in the watershed could damage thousands of structures and cost more than $1.14 billion.
The project completed a feasibility stage in December 2017, when the Chief of Engineers for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers submitted a report to Congress. Congress then appropriated more than $345 million dollars for the project under the Bi-Partisan Budget Act of 2018.
A team currently refining data gathered during the feasibilty phase, and developing project designs.
