New Community Advisory Board Seeks Member Nominations

Hawai?i Public Radio is forming a volunteer Community Advisory Board (CAB), an adjunct to the station’s governing Board of Directors, and is now accepting nominations for the CAB’s first 20 members. This new advisory board will provide feedback to HPR’s management on the station’s programming, as well as assess community outreach opportunities. A key consideration in the selection process, therefore, will be the overall composition of the CAB and its representation of Hawai?i?s diverse communities. Neighbor Island residents are encouraged to apply. CAB membership is open to those who are current HPR member-donors, or willing to become one.

Ways to nominate yourself or another person:

  • Complete the nomination form at bit.ly/advisehpr;
  • Pick up a hard-copy form at HPR's administrative offices, 738 K?heka Street, Honolulu; or
  • Call (808) 955-8821 during business hours to request that a form be mailed to you.

Nominations must be received by December 9, 2016, 11:59 p.m.

CAB members will normally serve a two-year term, with a “class” of ten members selected each year. For these inaugural appointments, however, ten of the 20 members will be asked to serve for a three-year period, in order to establish a “senior class” to guide the next group of “freshman” seated in 2019.

The CAB will meet at least four times per year in Honolulu, with at least two of the meetings in conjunction with HPR Board of Directors' Broadcast Committee. Off-island members unable to attend in person will be able to participate via conference call. CAB members, except for selecting a chair, have no voting authority or fiduciary responsibilities with HPR. Members for this Advisory Board will be selected by the Board on the recommendation of HPR executive management.

“This new Community Advisory Board creates for those of us on the ?inside' a welcome channel to hear on a consistent basis from those who are actively using our products and services,” said HPR's President and General Manager José A. Fajardo. “We already know there are many committed supporters of the station. We’re now looking for a chosen few to step up their involvement and asking them to bring their intimate understanding of the needs and interests of their community to assist HPR in the execution of its educational and cultural mission.”
