Club Hubba Hubba. The name conjures up the bawdy glitter of the 1940s nightlife of downtown Honolulu's Hotel Street.
Now the building that housed the historic club is being renovated and so is the former strip joint's neon sign. One of the few remaining signs of that era in the city, it was set to be lit up this weekend, but may be delayed a week or two.
Meanwhile, the Chinatown Improvement District plans an event to celebrate the renovation and the return of the sign Friday evening. It will be held on the ground floor of Club Hubba Hubba on Hotel Street. We spoke with Lee Stack, building owner and member of the Chinatown Improvement District. She shared the importance of the sign's return.
Friday's event, "Take a Chance on Chinatown," will feature a night of casino-style games, burlesque as well as live jazz music and pupus.
