Talk Story: Hawaiian History with Boyd Bond - Hawaiian Princes' Travels To Europe and the United States
Come listen to local historian Boyd Bond talk about the Hawaiian Princes traveling to Europe and the United States.
“In 1849, Kamehameha III sent his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gerrit P. Judd, on a mission to the United States, Britain and France to secure treaties and other agreements. Dr. Judd suggested the two heirs to the throne, Prince Alexander Liholiho and Prince Lot Kapuaiwa, should accompany him to learn diplomacy and build their awareness of how other countries operated. They would later become Kamehameha IV and V respectively, and their reactions were somewhat different to the experiences they both shared. Come join us as we discuss what those
experiences were.”
