Scales - A Youth Opera - Debut Performance!

Scales - A Youth Opera - Debut Performance!

Debut performance of a NEW YOUTH OPERA! Scales! Based on an original story about Mo`o (Dragons) who live on Maui. A story about community, family and cultural awareness. Students grades 5-12 perform this 3 act opera. Presented by the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus and Hawaii Opera Theater Education Dept as part of our summer intensive YOUTH OPERA program called OPERAtunities. Students have met for an intensive 3 weeks: daily workshops in performance skills including solo and chorus singing, hula, drama, making their props, costumes and set pieces. The opera has been adapted from an original story written by a Native Hawaiian author Acacia Awai, and composed by an Iolani grad and alumni of HYOC Dr. Tonia Ko, DMA who teaches at the Royal Holloway School in London. Libretto by Nola Nahulu.
