Ogasawara-ryu : 850 Years of Samurai Heritage 小笠原流
The Ogasawara Family lineage can be traced back to the 9th century; the 56th Emperor of Japan. Ogasawara Nagakiyo, founder of the Ogasawara-ryu School, had served the first Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate in the 12 century as his instructor in the arts of Reiho (courtesy, etiquette, and protocol), archery, and horse-mounted archery. Since then, the Ogasawara family has instructed in those disciplines for Ashikaga, and Tokugawa shoguns. The discipline has been passesd down from generation to generation within the Ogasawara Family.
After the Meiji Restoration, Ogasawara-ryu opend its doors to the public. Current Grand Master of the school is Ogasawara Kiyotada, 31st generation, and its arts are now taught globally. Ogasawara-ryu still performs nearly 80 sacred ceremonies annually at major shrines all over Japan, and performs Yabusame; horse-mounted archery.
Ogasawara Kiyomoto ( the young master, and the speaker for this event), has performed Yabusame globally, including in London for Prince Charles and Japan's Crown Prince that time, and in Hawaii .
