DETAILS: The Mid-Pacific School of the Arts (MPSA) presents its annual fall Dance Concert, featuring an evening of dance repertory, contemporary dance, and hula from Mid-Pacific halau, Pūpūkahi I Ke Alo O Nā Pua. The featured works are choreographed by the Mid-Pacific Institute School of the Arts Dance Faculty and guest artists under the direction of Paul Maley and Kumu Lanakila Casupang.
Mid-Pacific alumnus Kent Shinomae (’09) returned to his alma mater this year as a guest artist to choreograph an 11-minute dance piece that explores the discovery of the senses, as both dancers and humans. Shinomae began taking dance classes at Mid-Pacific in 7th grade, and added musical theater, ballet, jazz and modern dance to his repertoire as part of his MPSA high school curriculum. He currently performs with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Mid-Pacific School of the Arts offers students the opportunity to study under the direction of expert Mid-Pacific instructors from stage and screen who are noted professionals in their fields. The school offers pre-conservatory level programs and intensive arts training in dance, hula, instrumental music, media, musical theatre, theatre, visual arts and aoice. The arts are an integral part of the Mid-Pacific experience and students at all grade levels are exposed to arts education because Mid-Pacific believes the arts are as much a part of an individual’s development and success as they are a part of a meaningful and enlightened society.
