Featuring:

August 9 - Clara Kim, violin
Clara Kim is a violinist at the forefront of contemporary music, known for her expressive playing, bold programming and deep collaborations with living composers. She has commissioned and premiered countless works by established, emerging, and student composers alike. Her program, “People and Places” features the works of six composers, each inspired by a location that shaped their creation. From the trilling insects in the Thai countryside to the soulful landscapes of Iran and the serene shores of Hawaiʻi, this program honors the deeply personal connection between place and music.

August 16 - Alex Hayashi, oboe, and Shuo Li, bassoon
Dr. Alex Hayashi is an oboist currently teaching at the University of Hawaiʻi as the Lecturer of Oboe and playing with the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra (HSO) as Associate Principal Oboe. Dr. Shuo “Shelly” Li is the acting associate principal and second bassoon with the HSO. Together, they present a program featuring duo pieces for oboe and bassoon by Asian (American) composers. Alex is a second-generation Japanese American whose parents are both from Japan, and Shuo has roots in China. With few opportunities to explore the intersection of their Asian heritage and classical music identities, this collaborative project was born from that shared vision.

August 23 - Megan Conley, harp
Megan Conley grew up in Austin, Texas, and began playing harp when she was 5 years old. By age 15 she had performed on the Grammy Award-winning album 'Los Super Seven.' Her program, "Colors of the Harp" showcases the beauty and magic of the harp through music ranging from Queen Liliʻuokalani and Leilehua Lanzalotti to Claude Debussy and Sergei Profofiev, offering a unique demonstration of the range and variety of music for the harp.

August 30 - Honolulu Brass Quintet
Renowned for its versatility, Honolulu Brass Quintet (HBQ) performs throughout the state for a wide range of audiences in different formats outside of the concert hall, offering full-length brass performances in premier venues across its home island of O‘ahu. The members of the quintet are all full-time professional musicians in addition to teaching privately through the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, BYU Hawai‘i, Punahou and ‘Iolani. This unique combination of talents guarantees the highest level of musical artistry, enriching the musical life of Hawai‘i through HBQ’s dynamic performances and unwavering commitment to the arts.

This event will be recorded (audio and video) and photographed. Your presence constitutes your release of all rights to your recorded voice and image, which may be used in projects by Hawaiʻi Public Radio.
