Hawaiian Oboe Legacy Project Student Composer Winners Recital
The next phase of the Hawaiian Oboe Legacy Project has been completed resulting in new musical works featuring the Kauila Oboe created by University of Hawaii/Manoa Composition Students. The winning composers and their pieces:
1st Prize: $1,000 Paul Cosme, 'Return of Kauila' for oboe and piano
2nd Prize: 500 Joseph Williams, 'He mai kuhewa' for oboe and piano
3rd Prize: 250 JunYi Chow, 'When the Wood Breathes' for solo oboe
Honorable Mention: Dalen Wuest, 'Chants, lullabies, and dances' for oboe and piano
Please join us to help celebrate the creation of these musical works honoring the Hawaiian culture and the Kauila wood resource; UH Lecturer in Oboe, Dr. Alex Hayashi, will be joined by accompanist Megumi Kurachi. We look forward to seeing you there!
