End of WWII Commemoration Service with a Hiroshima Atomic Bombing Survivor

End of WWII Commemoration Service with a Hiroshima Atomic Bombing Survivor

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Hongwanji Hawaii hosts a solemn remembrance of all those whose lives were profoundly affected by the consequences of war. The event is intended to foster reflection on the immense human cost of conflict, and through the preservation of historical memory, to deepen our understanding and commitment to peace. Guest speaker Ms. Sadae Kasaoka was exposed to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima at age 12 while at home, 3.5 km (2.2 miles) away from the hypocenter. Hear her first-hand account by joining in person or via Zoom.

Visit the event web page on the Honpa Hongwanji website for more information and to register (required for Zoom attendance). Shortcut link: http://honpahi.link/ww2reflect

NOTE: An atomic bombing photo poster exhibition will be presented on the same day (Thursday, August 14) from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the temple’s social hall.
