HoMA, in cooperation with community partner the East-West Center, will present a unique concert of Japanese bamboo shakuhachi flute music by Christopher Yohmei Blasdel, in celebration of 55 years of shakuhachi playing. The program ranges from ancient meditative solo works, a lively Edo Period nagauta ensemble masterpiece, original contemporary compositions to an exciting improvisatory piece for shakuhachi and piano. Featured musicians are violinist Iggy Jang, pianist Tommy James, vocalist-shamisen performer Sakio Kineya (Bryson Goda) and vocalist Mika Kimula. Prominent ethnomusicologist Dr. Ricardo Trimillos will serve as program host.
