Please join us on Thursday, April 18 at 6:00 pm for our next virtual  Kahaukani Conversations event with Dr. Patrick Hart, Professor of Biology at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo. Dr. Hart has been conducting research on the ecology of Hawaiian forests and forest birds for more than 30 years. 

As we celebrate 2024 as Ka Makahiki o Nā Manu Nahele (The Year of the Forest Birds) we are delighted to have Dr. Hart share some work from his LOHE (Listening Observatory for Hawaiian Ecosystems) research lab. 

In his talk, Patrick will highlight the incredible diversity of song in our Hawaiian birds and discuss some of the impacts of habitat fragmentation and population decline on song-learning and repertoire. The talk will also include an introduction to how the LOHE lab has contributed to the development of a powerful set of AI tools to improve our ability to monitor trends in the distribution and abundance of our birds from soundscape recordings.
