The Hawai‘i Pet Fair started small, as the ‘Ewa Bird Fair, but people wanted to bring their other pets, then the moms made crafts to sell, then people wanted to stay all day and eat. So this Saturday, it’s food, crafts, entertainment, and all kinds of animals in a day of family fun at ‘Ewa Elementary. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports.
Cameron Datanagan’s motto for the Hawai‘i Pet Show: Getting kids off their computers and into the yard with pets.
Hawai‘i Pet Show, ‘Ewa Bird Show and ‘Ewa Craft Fair
December 12, 10am to 2pm
‘Ewa Elementary School Campus
The ‘Ewa Bird Show is a highlight of the Hawai‘i Pet Show. There will be veterinarian judges offering advice and rating birds on feathering, stance, cleanliness, breed qualifications, and more. Top local pigeon and chicken breeders are participating in different competition categories.
There will also be reptile, fish, worm, rabbit, and macaw displays. Over 40 crafters from the Leeward and ‘Ewa area will be on hand with their creations. Mexican, Puerto Rican, Hawaiian, and other kinds of food trucks will be there too. An array of musicians and sports figures from the ‘Ewa area are also stopping by for entertainment.
Datanagan says they used to have a pet sale at the show but it just got too crowded. Now he says, people meet the owners and breeders and with the Show ending at 2pm, they have time to meet after the Show for any transactions. A portion of proceeds from the Show will go to ‘Ewa Elementary School for special projects or field trip assistance.
