Hawaiʻi’s Public Utilities Commission has stopped a wood-burning power plant planned for the Big Island. By a 2-to-1 vote, the PUC rejected a power purchase agreement between Honua Ola Bioenergy and the Hawaiian Electric Light Company.
Gov. David Ige has signed legislation providing freedom of speech and freedom of press protections to students publishing school-sponsored media at Hawaiʻi public schools and the University of Hawaiʻi. The "Hawaiʻi Student Journalism Protection Act" also protects advisers from retaliation for refusing to infringe upon student press freedom.
