Two new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus on Kauai and Maui

COVID-19 has quickly changed the landscape here in the Islands. The number of confirmed cases as of Monday morning was 7, all linked to travel. There have been daily news conferences as things have changed. HPR's Kuuwehi Hiraishi has attended the briefings and tells us more.

Hawaii's private healthcare industry preps for COVID-19

Our lives are changing daily and in some instances hourly as officials try to avoid a massive onslaught of patients and pressure on our healthcare systems. We are checking in regularly with Hilton Raethel, president and CEO of the Healthcare Association of Hawaii, which covers hospitals, long-term care and skilled nursing facilities across the state. He spoke with us last week about how our medical facilities are bracing for this crisis now that a pandemic has been declared bys the World Health Organization.

Local surfers on the 2020 Olympics

As we start to see the impact of the coronavirus on the sports world, one big concern is the fate of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, set to start in July. A new sport for the games is surfing. Hawaii's John John Florence and Carissa Moore have been dubbed aloha ambassadors for the games. We spoke with Carissa, as well as Gary Moniz and Keoni Downing on surf in the Games.
