Hawaiian Word of the Day: April 24th

HW0424.jpg

Everyone is familiar with the word h?nau from the popular greeting “hau?oli l? h?nau,” but many mispronounce it and often use it incorrectly. H?nau means to give birth. To say that one was born, requires adding the passive article ?ia, as in, “H?nau ?ia ?o Ka?imi Pono” – Ka?imi Pono was born. In either case, be sure to stress the first vowel.
