Fly: A Celebration of Juneteenth
Wednesday, June 19th at 7pm
Join us to celebrate Juneteenth with African dance, music, and aerial arts!
Presented with Hawai'i Jazz, Jazz Maui, and Mana'o Radio
Of all our national holidays, Juneteenth National Independence Day commemorates not just the ending of legal slavery in the United States, but the ending of legalized ideologies of supremacy and racial separation. Juneteenth uplifts the ideals of true and total freedom and justice for all. It’s one of the few, perhaps the only holidays globally, that commemorates legal practices of human rights, dismantling legal inequity and civil unrest. In a world of that commemorates conquerors, political figures, war, and martyrs, this holiday is a significant treasure to celebrate for the progress of humanity.

Fara also provides access to the rhythms of Guinea through the Rhythm Reference Project, the most comprehensive audio and notation library ever compiled for West African Drumming. Fara has performed with many of the world’s premier musicians including Mamady Keita, Burning Spear, Neil Young, Sekouba Bambino, Otis Taylor, Joe Cocker, Youssou N’Dour, Salif Keita Habibe Koite, B.B. Chloe Malyshkin (1991) was born in St. Louis Missouri. Her study of Philosophy and Religion at Truman State University in Missouri largely informa her work. When she moved to New York in 2014 her practice in oil paint began, with Acrylic and multimedia to follow. Her current work focuses on music and video production, and makes use of vivid color in Maui, Hawaii. Chloe is participating in the 2024 Canopy Program, a yearlong mentorship intensive.
Etiange Domoa was born in Harlem, NYC to two Côte d'Ivoire immigrants. Her biggest health inspiration was her father, who encouraged her health and well-being by making sure she committed to sports and art. She has trained in professional dance (hip hop, ballet, West African, jazz, etc.) for 15 years with Alvin Ailey, Broadway Dance Center, and other professional choreographers stationed in LA. She continues to build her passion for the arts by teaching dance and Pilates on Maui as well as training in Pole dancing.
Sarah Patrinellis is a strength-based aerial artist from Northern California who splits her time seasonally between the West Coast of the mainland and Hawaii. As a coach and performer with a decade of technique training to draw from and a love for choreography / act creation, her focus is on silks, lyra, duo work, cube, rope, sling and dance trapeze. She thrives in a solo, duo & collaborative group setting, is always up for a good challenge, and to start learning a new apparatus! Sarah’s true calling is to share the empowering movement practice of aerial to others through lessons, workshops and international retreats in a supportive and inspiring environment.
